John Dallas Crossman

John Dallas Crossman

Pilot Officer, Australian

46 Squadron, Stapleford

Pilot Officer Crossman’s Hurricane was shot down by enemy fighters on the 30th September and crashed in flames at Tablehurst Farm, Forest Row, East Sussex at 1.30pm. Pilot-Officer Crossman was killed and the aircraft a write-off.

It is said that on the day, an artist was sitting in the very same field painting a landscape, when Pilot Officer Crossman's aircraft crashed, the artist included the crash scene in his painting.

We organised a digger on this site in 2013 but after many hours searching only small items were found.

The picture below shows Crossman at Cranwell, we believe he is seated in the front row, far right.
